In the year I86Z4, the cea.etery which had been blessed by Bishop I'icDonald in I8Z4.3, having become over crowded, a new site of twelve acres was purcaesed, about a mile from the city limits. This was laid out according to the plan of St. Patrick's Cemetery in Quebec , and was solemnly consecrated in I8 S 4. The first internment within the precincts of tnis cemetery was that of the lamented Father McGillivary, senior priest of St. Dunstan's who died on the 4th of July, I883, deeply and deservedly regretted by all classes enu creeds of the community. In the autumn of I884, it became evident that St. Joseph's Convent was much too small to afford accomodation for the two hundred and forty eight children attending the classes, and the Bishop undertook to erect an extension of 111 feet by 4- feet which renders it one of the most imposing buildings in the city. This undertaking was most popular with the Catholics of Charlottetown , who cheerfully responded to the calls which it necessitated on their purse strings. Among other projects for raising the necessary funds were two bazaars which were so liberally patronized as to realize over $2000. each, a large sum to be made by a bazaar in a small provincial town. On Wednesday, august the 12th, I885, the Silver Jubilee of His Lordship, BishopMcIntyre, was celebrated with pomp and enthusiasm in Charlottetown .
