This church *as placed under the invocation of St. Cuthbert, it wac cruciform in shape and was built by a man named Barrett. The presbytery of Baldwin's Road was built several years later than the church. Its erection was super¬ intended by Rev. James Fhelan . In 1G75 thn church built by Father Mclntyre , was replaced by an elegant structure erected when Rev. Angus MacBonald was in charge of the mission. In 1879. during a violent snow storm accompanied bji a strong north west gale, this fine church was blown down, to the great distress of the worthy priest and all the parish- oners. The following account of the Catastrophe is taken from the parish register. "On February 22nd 1879, St. Cuthhert's church was blown down and completely destroyed, to our great less and affliction. We had to consider then, as far as we could, what was to be done in order to get some pl^ce in which to assemble ths people for Divine Service. We had no money, no church, and the parish was 1,500 in debt. We cannot forget the afflicted appearance of the church grounds end the parish generally on the day and week after the church was blown down. "Th parishoners shoved a good spirit and were willing to do the best they could, but what had they to work on, in regard to money or temporal and worldly matter. Nothing whatever, We had however, our confidence in God , which required strength¬ ening, and our courage and earnestness, which also needed strength and improve¬ ment.
