MISSION OF THE HOLY MAGI The districts which constitute this mission are Freetown , Sumir.erfield, Irishtown and Park Corner . The mission as it now exists was formed in 1 S &5 from portions of the parishes of St. Mary's Indian River , and St. Malachy, Kincora, although lohg prior to that date there was a little church in the district of Park Corner , which is know to history as "Irishtown Church". In the year 132S, Bishop McDonald then priest in charge of the western section of Prince Edward Island , purchased an acre of land from one Charles Doyle of Park Corner and built a chapel upon it, find consecrated a cemetery. In that chapel Fatter McDonald held a station twice a year and the custoir was followed by his successors until the year 1855 i when Father James McDonald , then priest in charge of Indian Elver and the adjoining missions, sold the chapel to one James Doyle who pulled it down ajid built himself a dwelling house with the scantling and lumber. This transaction closed the history of the Irishtown church. The foundation stone of the parish church of Freetown , was laid on the 25th October IS65, by the Right Rev. Peter Mclntjrjre , Bishop of Charlottetown . The church measures fifty feet in length by thirty in breadth. It was completed in 1870. In 187^ a bell was procured for the mission and in the month of September of that year it was formally blessed by the Bishop. In 1SSU a handsome set of stations of the cross was purchased for the church and erected by his Loruship the Bishop in the spring of the following year. This mission has always been served from St. Mary's Indian River .
