resume his former place in the labour of the Vineyard but due to his shat- tered physical health he was unable to bear the burden of the day.
He finally retired and sought rest on P.E.I. A North Dakota news- paper, the Carrigan Independent carried an article that indicates to us the affection and appreciation in which he was held among the people of that area. Remarks were made by members of every nationality and creed regarding Father Augustine MacDonald’s worth as a citizen and a priest, the severe hardships he had uncomplainingly gone through in the early days. They spoke of his steadfast loyalty and unwavering call to duty and the high esteem in which he was held by his own parisioners and by all non-Catholics as well.
His death occurred at Vernon River and he was laid to rest in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, Vernon River, P.E.I., September 25, 1915.
