Reverend Kenneth Chisholm MacPherson — 1870- 1959

A native of the Parish of Vernon River, Father MacPherson was born on January 28, 1870, the son of Neil MacPherson and Elizabeth MacIsaac. Having begun his education in the primary schools, he grad- uated with a teacher’s license from the Normal School, and devoted himself to teaching in the public schools.

He again took up his studies and went for a time to St. Dunstan’s College, and afterwards to the Seminary Quebec, and having finished his studies, he returned home and was raised to the priesthood in the Basilica of St. Dunstan’s, Charlottetown, on the 25th of July 1903.

He served for a time at the Basilica in Charlottetown and St. Dunstan’s College, and later was appointed to the Pastoral care of St. Margaret’s parish, where he remained for thirty five years, working efficiently in the interests of souls.

Here in 1920 he endured the painful experience of having his Church and Rectory burned to the ground in a disastrous fire that raged out of control across the countryside for many days. With his serene calm and ingenuity along with the good co-operation of the parishioners of St. Mar- garet’s, he quickly made renovations in the parish hall where he carried on worship until he had a new house built and a new church started in 1923.

In 1938 he was transferred to the parish of Tracadie Cross and its attached mission of Corran Ban. Here at Tracadie he built a new convent staffed by the Sisters of the Congregation of St. Martha who taught in the school he had recently renovated. After a long and fruitful ministry, he celebrated his fiftieth anniversary in the priesthood in 1953 and retired to the Sacred Heart Home where he died in 1959. He was buried at

Tracadie Cross.

Father Kenneth C. MacPherson was a combination of a good priest and gentleman, always kind and considerate, at home with both the young and the aged, always youthful at heart even in his declining years, he endeared himself to all who knew him.

Reverend Felix L. Connolly — 1871-1953

Reverend Felix L. Connolly, the son of James Connolly and Rose Trainor, was born on September lst, 1871 in the district of Watervale in the parish of Vernon River. He received his early education at the local school after which he attended St. Dunstan’s College and later studied at the Propaganda College in Rome Where he received his Doctorate in philosophy and was ordained a priest on June 5th, 1898.
