PROPERTY OF U.P.E.I. THE WOMEN OF THE KIRK Helping Make Possible the Seemingly Impossible The role played by the women of the Kirk in over a century and a half has been for the most part low key but tremendous in its impact. No undertaking, however great or small, lacked their sympathy and support. If today the Kirk merits recognition in its own circle, community or province, much credit must go to the women's organizations that flourished down through the years. The Ladies' Aid, The Guild and Women's Missionary Society, in early years, were outstanding in their contributions of service. The Ladies' Aid and The Guild in 1958 joined to form The Kirk Auxiliary. In 1972 they along with The Women's Missionary Society formed The Presbyterian Women of The Kirk of St. James. The Auxiliary operated in six groups - East, West, Central, Brighton, J.O.Y. and Dorcas, but held a general monthly meeting to co-ordinate activities. This continues today under the Presbyterian Women of the Kirk. A more detailed account of the activities of these groups may be found in the files in the church office. FOREWORD This historical sketch of the work and activities of the women of the Kirk in years gone by is a tribute to their concern and love for this Church and their support of it. We today are justly proud of â– their contribution and grateful for the worthy heritage that is ours. May this record of the past inspire us, men as well as women, to greater faithfulness in the face of present opportunities so that the future will record that our best years are yet to be, John R. Cameron August 1977 Minister
