The Session and Trustee Board have always been generous and sincere in expressing their appreciation of the work of the Ladies' Aid. In the Session report of 1935 appears the following statement: "The Ladies' Aid Society has shouldered a heavy burden during the past year, has worked harder than ever, and been behind in no good work."
Due to incomplete records, it is imposaible to give an accounting of the money raised by the Ladies' Aid and given to the Trustees. Ikisting reports state that annual amounts range from $500 β $2,000. The annual report of 1903 states that βin the past seven years, under the same chairmanship, the Ladies' Aid have reduced the church debt by $3,700."
By 1939 the Ladies' Aid was experiencing periods of frustration. When the time arrived for the Hallowe'en tea to be held, they asked the Guild of St. James for help/which was willingly given. This joint effort was successful, much to the satisfaction of both groups. The Kirk Auxiliary came
into existence in 1940.
It has been said already that the Ladies' Aid laid a strong foundation for future women of the Kirk to build upon. Its members merited the ever- lasting gratitude of those who foIbwed.
Although this inadequate account of their achievements may seem to designate them as "The Marthas of the Kirk," yet to have known them was to be inspired by their abounding Christian faith in their Heavenly Father and their deep devotion to the worship of this church.
It must be said of them:
They rest from their labours But their good works and their great inspiration still remain.
