15 Monetary Support
Members also shared in the mission of the church in the local congrega- tion, in Canada, and in other lands by their efforts in raising monetary support through collections, setting aside a penny a meal or snack, cook- book, talent and rummage sales, catering, and the Fall Food Sale and Fair, the latter's proceeds of $3,200 going to the Board of Trustees, on which one of our members served, for the retirement of debt on the Kirk. They also collected Canada Packer Labels for needed kitchen equipment and replenished and repaired other kitchen equipment and supplies, as well as beautifying weekly the Sanctuary with flowers and:fiiiage.
Presbyterian Women, furthermore, contributed their time, substance and efforts to the Protestant Welfare Bureau's Clothing Room and Annual Christmas Shop, to the Fish movement, the Brownies, the Bible Society, the Special Care Unit, and the Salvation Army. They purchased a wreath for Remembrance Day and chose Mrs. W.J. Bigelow to lay it at the Cenotaph; they distributed White Gifts to shut-ins and sent a Christmas box to Armagh.
In support of the local congregation's work among youth and children, members provided Sunday School teaching, encouragement and monetary Christmas and Easter gifts to the Junior and Intermediate Choirs, including the new male element, and purchased gowns and collars for the Intermediate Choir.
There are two areas worthy of special mention in the Association's work in 1974. One is the production and printing of the 197A Constitution and Bthaws by its six-member committee, who worked unstintingly long hours under the leadership of Pauline -Prowse. The other is the thoughtful care given by the kitchen committee under the leadership of Katharine MacLennan
and Irene Craig toward a clarified set—up and better communications: between that committee and all the other members who use the kitchen's facilities.
Both these areas could easily be taken for granted, as they are such-an integral but silent part of our lives.
In conclusion, my heartfelt thanks go to the executive members, the group leaders, the committee convenors, to the Reverend John Cameron, Mrs° Cameron and their family, Mrs. Kenneth MacKenzie, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Perry, and Mr. Fred Smith, as well as to each member of this Association whose help and support in every way has been generous and creative in the best tradition of the church's life and its Christian concern for the community at large.
