Cain, born Aug. 3, 1878, baptized in Elmsdale by Rev. H. R. Baker. Three other children of the same couple were baptized the same day: Elizabeth Winifred, born Feb. 13, 1880; Annie Bell, born Oct. 8, 1882; and Thomas Edgar (adOpted) born Nov. 15, 1882. Burial: The earliest identifiable burial in Ehsdfle is recorded in Book 2, 1890—96: Frederick Matdmws, died Dec. 29, 1890, of heart disease, buried at Elmsdale Jan. 2, 1891. Buried by Rev. W. Lawson. It is remarded that he died suddenly. Rev. J. Seller (1878*81) was succeeded by Rev. H. R. Baker (1881—83) and Rev. D. D. Moore (1881—83) From a letter dated March 10, 1965, to Mrs. Alice Green from George A. Leard, it states that on Aug. 25, 1883, the Presbyterial Witness reported Alberton Congregation divided recentlyw—a new church being built at Montrose and another at Elmsdale. In 1884, May 15, the new church at Elmsdalc is reported completed except for seating and is out of debt. Supervising the carpentry work was Thomas Henderson, helped by several men from the charge. In 1885 the Presbyterian church purchased the church from the Methmfistsw: The-earliest references to Elmsdale in the Presbyterian records are found in the Registers of the Montrose charge.
