_ Deacon’s Court
The members of the Deacon’s Court in 1851 were: Donald Bruce, 'Sweene Campbell, Martin MacPherson, Malcolm Montgomery, elders and Malcolm Bruce, William Martin, Donald MacRae, Donald Munro, Malcolm Nicholson, deacons. The name of Donald MacLeod was included. as collector for Cardigan, St. Peter’s Road.
The Incorporation of Valleyfield Church
An Act was passed in the Legislative Assembly at Char— lottetown on May 2nd, 1864:
WHEREAS it is desirable for the efficient management of the temporal affairs of the Presbyterian Congregation of Brown’s Creek, worshipping in the Valleyfield Church, Township Number F ifty—seven, that the Minister and Trustees be an incorporate body.
BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED by the Lieutenant
Governor and Legislative Assembly of the Province of Prince Edward Island as follows :—
Thereinafter follows the six clauses of the Act of Incor- poration. The minister was the Reverend Alexander Munro and the Trustees were Sweene Campbell, Malcolm Campbell, Alexander Doyle, Alexander MacLeod, John MacDonald, Murdock MacDonald, Donald MacRae, Malcolm Bruce and Angus Stewart. ,
The Act was amended May 2nd, 1886, changing the con- stitution of the office bearers which shall be “two ecclasias- tically appointed office bearers of the congregation of the said church and seven persons from among the members of the congregation”
Early Stipends
At the first annual meeting of the congregation held on June 5th, 1852, following the sermon by Mr. Munro, it was reported by the deacons that the’total amount raised for the support of the ministry for the year was seventy pounds two shillings and two pence, P. E. I. currency or about forty-six pounds fifteen shillings, Sterling. The greater part of the stipend was paid" in kind. In his first year as minister of the congregation Mr. Munro received 616 pounds of flour which be valued at two pence per pound; 232 pounds of oatmeal valued
