History of Valleyfield and Congregation

From many parts today we come
To dedicate this landmark home; Whose silent eloquence we sense
Of lives and loves departed hence.
Here many stood while words were said That made them one, here too saw wed Their children . . . . seemed but a day Since they the selfsame words did say.
Here came again, as may we know, The burdened soul to breathe it’s woe Into the sympathetic ear
Of one who yet could shed a tear
For frailities ev’n of the best
To intercede for heart distrest.
Here came the word a friend was gone, A warm heart stilled, a life passed on.
Old timeworn manse, old parish home, One of the homes whose children roam Afar today in varied ways:
Brave homes of pioneer days, Through one we dedicate to all
Our love and honour till the call
Shall come to us as came to those Whose homes you were, at lifetime’s close.
So to the future let us turn
With joy of life and cheer to earn In our own right the honour due To humble worth— the only true Nobility upon this earth
For any race or any birth ——
The greatness of the pioneer,
The heritage of many here.
Where neighbour’s welfare as their own They cherished, guarded, all as one, Led by the precepts of God’s Word, Where helping hand of glad accord Was theirs to give to suit the need, Was theirs to lend nor vaunt the deed; Who lived as God would have us live, Learning the best we have to give.
