20 1. Rev. John Martin (1790-1865) was minister of St Andrew's Church in Halifax, editor of the Guardian, Halifax, throughout its life (1838-1853) and of the Monthly Record or the Church of Scotland in Nova Scotia , New Brunswick and Provinces. In his later years he was Superintendent of Missions in the lower provinces for the Colonial Committee of the Church of Scotland. 2. Until 1830 when the Rev. James Mcintosh came to the Charlottetown (St. James) the only other Church of Scotland minister in P.E.I , was the Rev. John MacLennan in Belfast . Presbyterian ministers of that Synod of Nova Scotia which had been been formed in Truro and Pictou by ministers of the secession churches, and which had begun to establish a native ministry.were already in P.E.I. But members of the Established Church of Scotland did not regard the Secession as the true Church of Scotland 3 It is significant that McDonald says he received the light in P.E.I , after he had left his original appointment in . This indicates perhaps tha there was some truth in rumours of his "disorderliness" there. Is it possible that he was privately censured by his parent body in Scotland and that he carried a continuing resentment about their lack of understanding of the " peculiarity" of his case? 4. He was probably possessive of his flock and would not want to be questioned about his call there either by members of his own churches or by Presbytery or Synod . Further investigation of the issue is needed.
