The Prince Edward Island Presbytery Calls 2: Meeting to Choose a Successor to the Rev. Donald McDonald.
May 1869
[In May 1869 an official meeting was called under the aegis of the Presbytery of Prince Edward Island in connection with the Church of Scotland to call a successor to Rev. Donald McDonald who had recently died. The meeting was held at Desable. William McPhail was named secretary. The meeting decided that it would be onerous for a minister to serve both De Sable and Orwell congregations at such a distance from one another. The person they had in mind, Rev. James McColl, had indeed indicated that though he would serve both congregations if absolutely necessary, he preferred that Orwell Head find its own pastor. it was decided that De Sable would call McColl with the understanding he would go to Orwell Head from time to time until they raised sufficient funds for a minister of their own. '
In November l869, Messers Dixon and Macphail appeared before the Presbytery of Prince Edward Island, and ~craved that ordinances might be continued“ and at the same time tabled a subscription list from the adherents of the church there amounting to £24 having that object in view. Presbytery drew up a list of dates for services at Orwell Head for a half year indicating which of the neighbouring ministers would supply each date.
