by side. for a plot of grourd suitable for a building site for a church edifice and also for a road leading from the lVIain Road to the building site. The agreement was signed in the presence of Alexander Fraser. It was also decided to erect a suitable place of worship on the building site as soon as possible. Sixteen persons took shares, while others contributed according to their means. The building oi a church edifice was a seri- ous undertaking to those early pioneers. but they did their best with small means and unsuitable equipment. The building was completed in a year and a half, and ready {or dedication.

The next important step was the organization of the church. Up to this period there were meetii‘gs of the people, for worship and the transaction 0? business. These meetings were held in private houses, and sometimes in the open air when weather permitted, but with the completion of the new church edifice a regular organization was the next step.

On Friday, july 12th. 1833, a special service was held in the new building for the purpose of organizing a regular Baptist church, after the New Testament pattern. Rev. John Shaw7 the pastor, and Rev. Samuel McLeod, of Uigg, conducted the solemn service. The church ofIicers were appointed and installed. The dedicatory service took place on Sunday the 14th.
