HISTORICAL SKETCH OF THE EAST POINT BAPTIST CHURCH

llli\, .\. (I, SHAW, 1891489!»

Mr. Shaw was a young man of attractive personality, greatly be- loved by young and old. His two and one-half years at Kingsboro church won him many friends and brought to the church marked success. A young man of fine spirit, a good pastor, a strong preacher, his pros- pects were bright for large usefulness and successful years in the work he loved; but throat and lung trouble cut short a life that promised so well. He died a few years after leaving East Point, but his memory is still cherished by all who knew him. He was ordained on this field. Twenty-eight were added to the church.

The Association was held here, 1894. Dr. DeWolfe was in attend- ance. During this pastorate, before Mr. Shaw was ordained, Rev. H. G. Mellick, on one of his visits, baptized a large number of converts. On several of his visits Mr. Mellick had baptisms. One of those baptized was Duncan Stewart, Jr., who was baptized in the river just below his own farm. He was over eighty years of age.
