HISTORICAL SKETCH OF THE EAST POINT BAPTIST CHURCH
beautiful expressions of a soul familiar, not only with the language, but the spirit of prayer. He was known far and near as a temperance work- er, and few could outrank him in setting forth the evils of the drink traffic. He had a keen sense of humor, that gave him a strong grip on an audience. As a visitor at the homes of the sick and the bereaved he was always welcome and helpful. He was a favorite with young people, and his presence at their meetings were cordially appreciated. He was a beloved deacon of the church for thirty-five years, and the regular pulpit supply during the pastor’s absence. In all the walks of life, public and private, he was a modest but compelling example of a spirit filled life. His influence was a benediction, his death a triumph and his reward secure.
