13 Rev. & Mrs. D. I. McClare THE PASTORATE OF REV . D. I . 1952-1958 IcCLARE Following Mr. Bell 's retirement, Donald I. McClare was called to the Field. Donald came directly from Gordon Divinity College near Boston to serve his first charge. He was ordained in the Kingsboro Church on September 23rd, 1952. The ordination sermon was preached by his uncle, Rev. Gordon McClare , who has served in our Baptist Convention Churches since 1931. During Mr. McClare 's term, many were persuaded to take a more active part in the life and work of the Church, and a number of them are the leaders today. Thirty-nine were baptized and received into the Church during his ministry. As both Mr. and Mrs. McClare were musical, the music of the Church was greatly enriched. A male quartet was formed, composed of Donald McClare . Harold Hunter . Wilbur .Jarvis and Kenneth Mac- Gregor. Later, Robert Rose joined the quartet, replacing Mr. McClare , Often the full choir of the church ably augmented by both Mr. and Mrs. McClare assisted various churches in evangelistic services and other special meetings. Youth activities were organized for different age groups. A Sigma C for teenage boys was started with Mr. McClare and Leith Robertson as leaders. This was held for several years in the hall over the Kings¬ boro School. During this pastorate, a very active Young Peoples was carried on. The enrolment was forty-seven during the year 1952-1953. In addition to Bible study, oratorical concerts and debates were held. Neither was the recreational side neglected. Mr. McClare 's
