20 In 1973 a new Baldwin organ was purchased for the church and the music, which was always good, is now better than ever. Mr. Willis was instrumental in securing an L.I.P. Grant of con¬ siderable size for the repairs and remodelling of the East Point and South Lake churches as well as the construction of a receiving vault. THE BABY BAND The first Baby Band mentioned in the church books was organized by . Miss Anna Scott . The first Baby Band party for mothers and babies was held or. the church lawn during the pastorate of Rev. Wallace MacWalker in the 1920s. Mrs. MacWalker was superintendent at that time. Since then it has always been kept alive but the names of all superintendents are not available. Mrs. Russel Garrett In 1962 Mrs. Russell Garrett took over as superintendent. A; the time of her appointment she said, "If that is the work God wants me to do, 1 am happy to give it my best." The following excerpt, ccpied from the January " Tidings " 1972 tells how well she has fulfilled her promise. Mrs. Russell Garrett has been superintendent of the East Point Baby Band tor the past ten years. During that time they made 180 children life members and raised $2,104.58 for missions. Mrs. Garrett lives on a farm and is a busy person but she finds time to do this very worthwhile work for the Lord in her church. Their resident member¬ ship is 271. To these figures can be added the following taken from the .972 report of the U.B.W.M.L . "Total amount raised by ten Baby Eands on P.E.I. - $560.47. Total for East Point alone $282.25. also made the most Life Members - 17."
