The Pastorate of 1971 - 1976 Rev. & Mrs. Arthur Willis Part of the pastorate of Rev. Arthur Willis has been recorded in the church history of 1933-72. During the summer of 1974 at the East Point United Baptist Church new panelling was put on the basement walls, the church roof was shingled and a new door was placed on the entry to the basement. At the Kingsboro Cemetery stones were repaired, seeding was done in the lawn, a vault was erected and more land was obtained from Leland Dixon . Edward and Richard Ching. Tape Ministry One of his most encouraging activities was the "Tape Ministry" to shut-ins undertaken by the World Wide Guild. This was a 15 minute service prepared by Mr. Willis which the Guild members took to shut-ins. 140th Anniversary In July 1973 our pastor was instrumental in arranging special activities to commemorate the founding of the East Point United Baptist Church in Kings¬ boro 140 years earlier. On July 12th the first Christian Holiday conference began and continued through until July 22. On July 15 Dr. Samuel Mikolaski . Principal at the Baptist Leadership Training School in Calgary, was the guest speaker at a special anniversary service. Other guests taking part at this time were Rev. Samuel Baxter , president of the United Baptist Convention of the Provinces, and Rev. Keith Hobson . General Secretary . A native son. Dr. Warren Young , professor at Seminary . Chicago, was also present. On July 22. Rev. Norman Archer of Victoria , B.C. was guest speaker at both the Kingsboro and South Lake services. Special Services During the week of April 17th-24th. 1974 special services were held in the church with Rev. Harold Braun , Evangelist, bringing the messages. Rev. Willis called upon the people to do their part. He stated, "Prayer groups must be started, prayer partners must be enlisted, an old-fashioned prayer meeting should be revived, but above all. our Christian life must be deepened." Music was pro¬ vided by the Senior Choir, the young people, and Mrs. Willis . A male choir also provided the music for one of the services. During the year services were also led by The New Christian Singers , Rev. Trites , Dr. Osberg , and Rev. Nesbitt . Ten candidates made their profession of faith in the waters of baptism in May. In December at a social hour following the evening service, the South Lake Christian Church and United Baptist Church congregations presented Rev. Willis with $300 for his work on the L .l.P. during the summer. 5
