Song-A-Rama
An outdoor Song—a-rama was held at the Sea Breeze Motel on July 18. 1976. the purpose of which was twofold: to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the motel and to raise funds for the Shalom Singers trip to Hamilton. Ontario. The group was invited to appear as feature singers at the Baptist Federation ofCanada Triennial Assembly at Hamilton Place. Sandra Ching and Myrtle Hennessey directed the singing. The evening featured refreshments and per- formances by the Senior Choir. the Shalom Singers and the MacDonald-Munroe Quartet from Montague.
Outdoor Baptismal Services
On July 25. 1976 Rev. Willis held an outdoor baptismal service on the beach below Sandy Robertson‘s. when 12 young people followed their Lord‘s example in the waters ofbaptism. The Shalom Singers provided special music. A sand monument surmounted by a cross and inscribed with the words
God loves me. God loves you. God loves us
gave an added sense of reverence to the occasion as well as a greater awareness of God and the message that Rev. Willis continually presented during his ministry here.
Other activities of Rev. Willis included the beginning of outdoor services. Speakers were placed outside the Kingsboro church so that during the summer months the entire evening service was broadcast in the parking lot for those who chose to remain in their cars.
He. together with the Senior Choir. and the Shalom Singers. held regular services at Colville Manor. Souris. His work with and support ofthe Shalom Singers was a continual part of his ministry.
In 1976 he resigned as pastor here and on August 29th a social hour was held in the church basement to honor him and his wife. A very large crowd attended and the music was led by the Senior Choir. Rev. Byron Howlett and his father. Roy. sang a duct and Mrs. Willis sang “O the Deep. Deep Love of Jesus." a Welsh hymn and a favorite of her husband.
Greetings were brought on behalf of the All Canada Committee of the churches of Christ (Disciples) by Rev. Howlett. Gifts were presented to the couple by members of the various groups of the church including the South Lake Christian Church and Sunday School.
Leith Robertson and Colin Dixon presented Mr. and Mrs. Willis with a substaniial gift of money from the congregations of both churches. Pastor and Mrs. Willis, in thanking everyone. expressed how happy they had been in this their last pastorate.
