Kingsboro Cemetery

Considerable information has already been written concerning the Cemetery at Kingsboro. Besides the work accomplished in 1974. the lane leading to the Cemetery was paved on September 17. 1977.

It was entered in the Rural Beautification Contest during the year 1978 and won first place in the province. This merited a prize of $200 and also a special award of $100 for placing first.

Improvements at this time consisted of a new cemetery sign constructed by Ernest Poole. Souris; 100 trees were planted; new clay and seed were placed on 36 graves as well as in many low places: grass was cut regularly; rows were marked off and numbered for burial plots in the new area; the vault was painted, also the fence posts surrounding the cemetery: flowers were planted and monuments were straightened.

A memorial service continues to be held once a year on a summer Sunday afternoon. It was decided at the annual church meeting on January 20. 1977 to plan on the first Sunday in July that the morning church service was in Kingsboro to hold the Memorial Service in the Cemetery that afternoon.

Two funds have been set up. one for general expenses and a Perpetual Fund that is made up of donations by several people. with the request that the in- terest. only. be used for the maintenance of the Cemetery and especially for graves where there are not any relatives or friends to take care of them.

A special event took place on August 9. 1981 when members of the Rose Clan and others gathered in the Kingsboro Cemetery for the unveiling of a monument at the burial site ofthe Rose founder. Samson Rose. This was an Inter-Faith Service at which Rev. Steve Dobbins and Rev. Father Floyd McGaugh each had a part. Music was provided by the choirs from the three local churches in the area and by Mrs. Alice Winterhalder. Prayer was offered by Deacon Russell Garrett.
