Mission Band

In Janurary 1980 a Mission Band for children aged 6-10 years was re-organized at East Point United Baptist Church.

Meetings were held each Kingsboro Sunday during the morning church service except during the summer months. Beth Ching and Martha Bruce were the leaders.

These sessions were spent in singing. learning Bible verses. having a Bible story. and doing a Mission study from the Mission Band Packet. An offering is received at each meeting and this is sent to our Mission Band Treasurer. Mite boxes are also used.

Six Life Members have been made. Robbie MacGregor. Craig MacGregor, Margo MacDonald. Andrea Stewart. Mark Dingwell. and Sue Ching.

On one Sunday of each year the children take part by singing during the morning church service. One year they presented a Playette entitled “How Dora Killed the Band.” For these special occasions the children wore necker- chiefs with the Mission Band emblem - a white daisy painted on the back. These were made by the W.M.S.

Baby Band The liast Point Baby Band has been one ol‘the most active bands in P.E.l.

During these years l24 babies were made Life Members and the sum of 83.28435 was given to Missions. This was accomplished, to a large extent. by our enthusiastic and dedicated leaders who inspired children. mothers. grandmothers. and others to fill Mite Boxes and to promote our Baby Band. These leaders have been Mrs. Russell Garrett 1962-1973. Mrs. Peter Stewart 19744978. Mrs. Russell Ching l979—l98l. and Mrs. Ervin Robertson “982—. Three assistants support and help by visiting the new babies. helping to plan parties. keeping records. and counting pennies. These assistants have been Mrs. (Jordon Robertson. Mrs. Horace MacDonald and Mrs. Ray Ching.

A highlight of these years was our 60th anniversary in 1973. A scene de- picting the Band of 60 years ago was set up including furniture. rugs, lamp 36
