[n 1980 our group led the Devotional at the Annual Association held in Charlottetown. Our Pastor‘s wife, Mrs. Sue Dobbins, was guest speaker. At this meeting, tribute was paid to Mrs. Della Fraser, a member for 71 years who attended her first Association in 1920. Her mode oftransportation was by horse and wagon to Elmira station, by train to Charlottetown, and by the ship Harland via West River to Victoria, then by car to Tryon.
This past year we had the happy privilege of serving dinner to a busload of senior citizens from St. John, under the direction of Rev. Alex Crowe.
From time to time our hearts have been saddened by the homegoing of our older members whose vision and zeal have done much to inspire us through the years. However, we rejoice at the Organization of the Mildred Law W.M.S., a group of young women who will continue to carry on the great work of Home and Foreign Missions when our feet shall have grown tired upon the road of the years.
Luu Family
During 1979 the plight of the Vietnamese Boat People was brought to the attention of the world through the news media. Canada agreed to sponsor some of these refugees.
In October of the same year, our Pastor’s wife, Mrs. Susan Dobbins, sug- gested that the East Point United Baptist Church and the Church of Christ (Disciples), South Lake, should consider sponsoring a family Both congre- gations agreed that we, as Christians, should show our love to these people and share with them some of the blessings that the Lord has given to us.
Kenneth MacGregor was appointed chairman, and committees were set up to look after the numerous areas of sponsorship. NeCCSsary documents were filled out and sent to Canada Immigration. Our family, the Luus. arrived in Charlottetown on January 25, 1980.
Furniture, clothing, and bedding were graciously supplied by concerned individuals. Gifts of money and monthly pledges were also donated. The churches agreed to sponsor the family for a year.
Our family consisted of Lu Luu, his wife Dung, daughters Van 41/: years and Hanh 16 months. A unit was rented at the Sea Breeze Motel and they re- mained there for five months. A mobile trailer was then purchased and placed on a site next to the Motel. There, they were carefully attended by various people, including Doris Llewellyn, manager of the Sea Breeze who gave so unselfishly of her resources.
