PART IV METHODIST SOCIETIES ARE ORGANIZED IN THIRTEEN HOMES AND SCHOOLS IN WESTERN PRINCE COUNTY As a result of the efforts of Rev. Robert Wilson and other missionaries before him, the thirteen preaching places were formed into a mission in 1860 with the Rev. William C. Brown as pastor. The Methodists were growing in numbers, although with a population in Lot 3 of only twenty-six families in 1863, there was not too much opportunity for growth. Besides Miminegash, some of the other preaching points mentioned in October 8, 1861 were Lot 7, Lot 8, Tignish, Kildare, and Cascumpec. At that time, the circuit had its headquarters in Lot 7 was known as the West Cape Circuit. Later, it was known as the West Cape and Cascumpec Circuit. On October 8, 1861, there was mention of financial support from Miminegash and in 1865, the Circuit Report stated that “some meetings were held at Miminegash with much good. Some backsliders were restored, and God’s people quickened. Fifteen young people joined themselves to the church”. As early as 1863, plans were discussed about the possibility of building a church in Miminegash. In 1867, George Farley represented Miminegash on the Committee of Stewards, and in August of that year he made the motion to purchase a sleigh and a buffalo robe for the use of the preacher on the Circuit. Ladies at different points on the circuit were given the task of collecting for these things. At Miminegash, Mrs. George Farley and Mrs. Richard Costain were asked to make a collection. At this same meeting, the stewards were directed to try to get hay and oats for the preacher’s horse as well as cash subscriptions for the minister’s salary. 1.
