7. A MILLIONAIRE FROM MIMINEGASH ALBERT CARLYLE WILKINSON (1893 - 1974)
From a financial point of view, the most successful resident of Miminegash was Albert Carlyle Wilkinson, oldest son of Albert Boasfield Wilkinson and Elizabeth Alice Mclnnis.
Carlyle Wilkinson was born on the Wilkinson Farm on the Shore Road in
Miminegash on September 5, 1893 and received his early education in St. Lawrence School, Number 17, in Miminegash and in the schools of Alberton.
At the age of eighteen, he entered the employ of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in the Alberton Branch, W.C. Lawson, manager. Later, Mr. Wilkinson was transferred to various branches of the Bank of Commerce in the Maritimes, in- cluding Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. He prospered quite well, ending his employment with the Bank of Commerce in New York where only the brightest young employees
were assigned.
Mr. Wilkinson did not remain in New York very long as he observed greater financial opportunities in Boston, Massachusetts. He resigned from the Bank of Commerce in New York and moved to Boston at a fairly early age. He obtained employment in Boston as a salesman for the brokerage firm of Hornblower and
Weeks where he remained until his retirement in 1969. He was a member of the Canadian Society of Boston, the Hikers Club and several cultural organizations
such as the Boston Symphony.
