14. OFFICIAL BOARD OF A METHODIST CIRCUIT The Official Board of a Methodist Circuit was composed of the minister, stewards, and leaders of the classes. They controlled and managed finances, recom- mend candidates for the ministry and gave general oversight to Church policy. A steward in each preaching place was designated “Chapel Steward” to attend to the upkeep and oversight of the church building. 15. WEST CAPE CIRCUIT AND ITS THIRTEEN PREACHING STATIONS 1860 We can well imagine that some form of religious meetings continued to take place in each other’s homes even before the Rev. William Webb of Bedeque baptised six children of the Pollard family in West Cape in 1833. This practice of cottage meetings, prayer meetings, or fellowship meetings continues to this day providing religious stimulation, mutual support in the faith and general fellowship among fellow Christians. The following is an attempt to provide the most likely location of the thirteen preaching stations. 1.
