for its tradition flows from Bible Christian into the Methodist Church. The present church was built in 1881.

MONTROSE In early days Presbyterians and Methodists of Montrose wor- shipped in Alberton but for many years before 1925 there had been both Presbyterian and Methodist churches in their own community. However, the two congregations were always closely connected by bounds of fellowship and through intermarriage among their families. Services were never held at the same hour and it was customary for many families of one congregation to join with

the other in worship.

About a year before Church Union, the Anglican Church in a nearby communi- ty was burned, and its people were in need of a building. Thus it came about that the Methodist people in Montrose sold their church and, in anticipation of the ap- proaching Union, moved to the Presbyterian Church on the other side of Montrose

River.

Today, on the Alberton - Elmsdale Pastoral Charge, regular Sunday services are held in Alberton, Elmsdale, Campbellton and Miminegash. The other churches are used for Sunday School and for occassional services.

During the pastorate of the Rev. Henry A. Brown, West Devon was transferred to the O’Leary Pastoral Charge on January 10, 1926.

From 1954 until 1969, Miminegash, Montrose, Elmsdale, and Campbellton became part of the Montrose Pastoral Charge under very pleasant and advan-

tageous circumstances.

On July 6, 1969, a special service was held in the Alberton United Church to make the amalgamation of the Alberton and the Montrose Pastoral Charges due to changing population patterns and to extend pastoral services to a greater number of people. The special service was conducted by the Rev. M. Ronald Pocklington with the sermon given by the Rev. Bruce Roberts. With the joining of these two pastoral charges, seven congregations were now united in their

spiritual efforts.

The proposal for the merger of the Campbellton and Miminegash Churches came during the 1966-1971 pastorate of the Rev. M. Ronald Pocklington and was

accomplished during the ministry of the Rev. Robert Taylor, 1971-1974.
