WE HEAR THE SOFT AND GENTLE SOUND OF THY PRECIOUS VOICE WITHIN. WE PRAY THE TIME FOR PRAYER AND PRAISE, MAY STIR YOU TO FULFILL, THE CALL TO WORSHIP IN GOD’S HOUSE, AND STRIVE TO DO HIS WILL. GRACE LINDQUIST RIZZO 22. PLANNING AND BUILDING THE MIMINEGASH CHURCH HALL The first time that the Rev. Stewart B. Russell mentioned the startling new idea of the possibility of a New Church Hall for the Miminegash United Church was on June 15, 1981 during a research and study trip which he and Warren W. 0055 made to the Archives, Pine Hill Divinity Hall, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Previously, Rev. Russell had also mentioned the possibility of securing the use of the Ebbsfleet School which was no longer in use. Projections of population changes and growth indicated to Rev. Russell not only the potential for new members among the many young families in the Miminegash —— St. Lawrence area, but also the future demand for more Sunday School space and facilities for the many young people and children. After the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Miminegash Church Building on August 23, 1981, plans for the New Church Hall began to move rapidly. On Friday, September 11, 1981, the Rev. Stewart B. Russell informally announced among the members of the Miminegash United Church the definite possibility of an addition to the church. Such news, after one hundred years of relative serenity was slightly earth-shaking in the quiet community of St. Lawrence and the surrounding countryside. A preliminary meeting of the church officers of the Miminegash Church was held in the church on September 14, 1981 with the following people present: The Rev. Stewart B. Russell, Robert E. Maclnnis, Ross MacKay and Alfred Smith. During the meeting, the type of building, construction, costs, insulation, foreman of construction for supervision, government help, volunteer labor, and donations of materials were discussed. On September 21, 1981 a Special Meeting of the Miminegash United Church congregation was held in the church to consider the possibility of building a church hall. There were twenty-one people present at the meeting which opened with prayer at 8:00 pm. with the Rev. Stewart B. Russell as chairman. Fenton Shaw opened the discussion with a presentation of figures projected for the proposed building. The first motion was voted to apply for a Canada Communi- ty Development Program grant. The second motion was voted to create a Building Committee of five people. The final motion was voted to appoint the following people to the Building Committee: Ronald Costain, Robert E. Maclnnis, Eleanor Murray, Jock Rix, and Russell Mclnnis. Allan Shaw was selected to act as an ad- visor in any contacts to be made with government agencies. Robert E. Maclnnis was chosen as chairman of the Building Committee. 60
