After a few weeks sickness, following a severe operation, he passed peacefully away in the unshaken Christian faith which had sustained him through life and which he proclaimed for the fifty-seven years of his ministry. He is survived by his wife. The funeral service was held in Queens Square Church, Saint John, NB. on Sabbath afternoon, May 8th, and interment was made in Fernhill Cemetery. ”3° Brown Coll. 5’ Rev. John Goldsmith Rev. John Goldsmith, Mabel and Violet Goldsmith REV. JOHN GOLDSMITH 1896 - 1900 The Rev. John Goldsmith was born in Douglas, Isle of Man, on May 26, 1853, the third son of Thomas Goldsmith and his wife Eleanor Sayle. He received his early education on the Isle of Man and gave his life to Christ at the age of eleven. He labored for the Savior as a prayer leader, Sunday School teacher, and soon after, a local preacher. When the call came from the Methodist Church, he entered the duties of the ministry. His father, Thomas Goldsmith, was a jeweler who operated a jewelry and clock store in Douglas, Isle of Man. Not much is known about the early life of John Goldsmith, but he went to Prince Edward Island in 1875, in response to an appeal of the New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island Conference. He was ordained in Charlottetown in 1879, but before ordination, he preached in Mount Stewart and Margate, P.E.I. from 1875 to 1877.
