REV. WILLIAM JOST HOWARD 1900 - 1903

Rev. William Jost Howard, BA., B.D., retired minister of the United Church of Canada, and a resident of Victoria, BC. for the past six years, died suddently at the family residence, 3176 Orillia Street.

Mr. Howard attended Centennial United Church, being a member of the session of that congregation. He was president of the Victoria Social Union of the

United Church.

He was born in Cornwall, Prince Edward Island. He was graduated from Mount Allison University, Saskville, N.B., in 1888, and much of his early ministry in the Methodist Church was served in the Maritime Provinces.

Rev. Howard was in charge of the Alberton Circuit from 1900 to 1903.

In 1905, Mr. Howard went to Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., following which he served in the following pastorates in Alberta: Airdire, Pine Creek, New Norway and Forestburg, from which he came to Victoria.

Mr. Howard is survived by his widow, one son, Claude, of 1054 Summit

Avenue, Victoria, and two grandchildren; also three brothers, Rev. Benjamin Howard, of the United Church, Evansburg, Alta.; Frank T. Howard, Prince

Edward Island, and Rev. Samuel Howard, D.D., of 2933 Orillia Street, Victoria, and three sisters, Mrs. H. Weeks, Springfield, P.E.I.; Mrs. T. Hinton, Summerside, RBI, and Mrs. A. Stetson, Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.

REV. WILLIAM ROGERS PEPPER 1902 - 1905

“After a life of devotion and faithfulness in the Christian Ministry, William Rogers Pepper ended his earthly career at his home in Saint John, NB. on March

11,1932.

He was born at Ashfield, Suffolk County, England, on May 20th, 1852, thus being in his eightieth year at the time of his death.

Early in his youth he entered into fellowship with Christ, joined the Wesleyan Methodist Church, forthwith entered upon Christian service, and later became an

accredited local preacher.

Coming to Canada in 1875, he was accepted in that year as a candidate for the ministry in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island Conference of the Methodist Church and, after completion of studies, was ordained atCharlottetown in 1879.

Following ordination, Mr. Pepper rendered forty years of faithful work in the ministry on the following charges: Derby, Saint Martin’s, Bocebec, Tantramar, North Hampton and Canterbury, Gibson, Kingston, Upham, Deer Island, Andover, N.B., Bideford and West Cape, P.E.I., Sheffield, Boiestown, Saint James, N.B., Vernon River, P.E.I. and Jerusalem, N.B.
