REV. HUGH MILLER 1906 - 1903

“Rev. Hugh Miller passed away at his home at Newport, Nova Scotia, on February 6th, 1941.

He was born in Yorkshire, England in 1874 and became a young local preacher, serving for ten years in this capacity.

He came to Newfoundland in 1900 and later completed his education at Mount Allison University. He was ordained in 1906.

He married Miss Ethel Jane Boudy, Winsloe, Prince Edward Island, who survives him.

Rev. Miller served as pastor of the O’Leary Circuit P.E.I., from 1906 to 1908. During those years, the O’Leary Circuit included the Miminegash Methodist

Church.

He also served the following Charges: Cornwall, P.E.I. (1908-1912), Mon- tague, P.E.I., Baie Verte, Centerville, Silver Falls, Debec, Riverside and Newport,

N.B. He was Chairman of Windsor Presbytery at the time of death.

Mr. Millar was a faithful and humble servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and a thoughtful earnest preacher.”36

REV. JAMES WATSON HOWE 1908 - 1909

“At Stanley, York County, N.B., on January 12, 1977, William and Mary Ann Howe welcomed the arrival of a son, James Watson, who was destined to serve God and man for 38 years. He died on march 7, 1965, in a nursing home near Montreal, and is buried in the United Church Cemetery at Stanley, N.B.

After early schooling in the Stanley area and Fredericton Business College, James Howe went on to graduate from U.N.B. with a degree in Arts in 1904. He then took YMCA training in Warren, Pennsylvania, and spent two years as “Y”

Secretary in Truro, NS.

From 1908 to 1909, Rev. Howe was the minister in the O’Leary Circuit, P.E.I., which included the Miminegash Methodist Church.

He began his training for the Christian ministry in 1908, but was invited to go to Japan as a missionary in 1910. He married Lilly Crozier, of West Devon, P.E.I., and together they sailed in September of that year. In 1913, his training completed, he was ordained a minister of the Word and Sacraments.

During both world wars, he served in the YMCA War Services. During the inter-war years, he served as “Y” Supervisor at the Kentville Sanatorium, was in

Bermuda for two years, and held pastorates in Port Elgin, Florenceville, Jackson-
