Uniled Church Observer Coll. Rev. Robert M.E. Taylor
REV. ROBERT M.E. TAYLOR, L.Th. 1971 - 1974
The Rev. Robert Taylor entered the ministry as a lay supply preacher in Merrit, British Columbia in 1969. He then transferrred from the Toronto Conference, when a candidate for the ministry, to the Maritime Conference in 1971. Rev. Taylor served the Alberton-Elmsdale, P.E.I. Charge from 1971 to 1974. In 1975, Rev. Taylor moved from Alberton, RBI. to the Saint John’s Pastoral Charge which covers the Inverness, Hillsborough, and Port Hood area of Nova Scotia. He served only one year there before moving to the Bay of Quinte Conference in Ontario. In 1976, Rev. Taylor settled in the Oakwood Pastoral Charge, Ontario.
Rev. Robert Taylor moved again in 1982, this time west to the Alberta Con— ference. Here he became Senior Minister of the St. James United Church in Edmon- ton, Alberta. It was in this church where the controversy began between liberal and conservative elements of the United Church.
The Rev. Robert Taylor became interested in an evangelical movement within the United Church of Canada. The United Church Renewal Fellowship is a group of conservative, evangelical and charismatic Christians who tend to be much more involved in faith-related activities, such as prayer meetings and Bible study groups, than average members. Rev. Taylor served as Chairman of the United Church Renewal Fellowship, and his comments often have appeared in issues of The Small
Voice, a publication of this group.
