REV. ROBERT STANFORD LOCKHART 1983 - 1984
Rev. Robert S. Lockhart was born in O’Leary, P.E.I. on July 20, 1946. He was married to Sally Adamson on October 24, 1970, and they have three children, Nathan, born in 1974; Jonathan, born in 1976, and Sarah, born in 1978.
Rev. Lockhart received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mount Allison University in 1968 and his Bachelor of Divinity Degree from McGill University in 1971. During 1971, Rev. Lockhart was ordained in the Maritime Conference of the United Church. Further studies at the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, Virginia resulted in a Master of Arts Degree in 1972. He was a candidate in 1984 for the degree of Master of Theology at the Atlantic School of Theology.
In 1972 - 1973 Rev. Lockhart was Executive Director of the Charlottetown, P.E.I. Youth Services, Inc., and in 1973 - 1974, he was a consultant in Community Development with the Rural Development Council of P.E.I. From 1974 to 1977, Rev. Lockhart was Minister of Christian Development at Glebe St. James United Church, Ottawa, Ontario, and from 1977 to 1982, he was United Church Chaplain at the University of Windsor and Executive Director of Iona College, Windsor,
Ontario.
On September 18, 1983, Rev. Lockhart preached his first sermon as the Supply Minister in the Alberton-Elmsdale, P.E.I. Pastoral Charge and proved to be in- stantly popular with all ages of members. His temporary ministry lasted until March, 1984 when he expressed his wish to assume a position in administrative work within the United Church organization in Ottawa. A Farewell Reception was held for Rev. and Mrs. Lockhart in the Christian Education Center, Alberton, P.E.l. on March 10, 1984 during which many regrets were expressed regarding the resignation of Rev. Robert S. LOckhart.
