meetings starting with the earliest days of the first settlers and continuing through at least a generation until their dreams of holding their worship services in their own Methodist Church were realized in 1881. Similar to any other organization or enterprise, some individuals are more energetic or conscientious than others of their colleagues. Such is true of the churches of Miminegash. The condition of the records have varied from the beautifully written records of the Rev. Charles Wesley Dockrill, who left the first records starting with 1867, probably written after long and arduous horseback rides around parts of his circuit, to later ministers who seemed contented to annotate older membership lists prepared by previous ministers. In one particular situation, the complete records of the Rev. Matthew Richey Knight, 1883 - 1886, covering a three year period, are missing. While it may seem to be an improbability, can it be possible that the Rev. Matthew Richey Knight hurried- ly packed all his possessions including the records of the Miminegash Methodist Church for the years 1883 - 1886, and they are now stored in the attic of his grand- son or grand daughter? Needless to say, we would like to have these records returned to add to the others which have been carefully preserved for one hundred and twenty-six years. Missing records for other years are due to some ministers depending on an- notated rolls or else privately kept notes which have long disappeared. Although the membership rolls have been printed rather completely through 1927 or for a short time following the establishment of the United Church of Canada, one record from the Montrose Pastoral Church carries information through 1960. It was thought, however, for the purpose of this history, that it would not be very useful to continue lengthy rolls of membership which now can be easily obtained because ministers have became much more conscious of the extreme value of carefully kept church records. 33.
