VRELY is a village and commune in the Department of the Somme, on the road from Albert to Montdidier, two miles from Rosieres station on the main railway line from Amiens to Laon. It was captured by the 2nd Canadian Division on the 9th August, 1918. The Communal Cemetery is at the North-West end of the village, on the road to Caix. A German Extension, now removed, was made on the North-West, and the British Extension is at the North corner of the Cemetery. It was made by the Canadian Corps Burial Officer after the capture of the village. It contains the graves of 39 Canadian soldiers, four of whom are unidentified and who belonged mainly to the 22nd, 24th and 25th Battalions, and four from the United Kingdom. It covers an area of 238 yards. It is enclosed on three sides by a low brick wall and on the fourth by the wall of the Communal Cemetery; and climb- ing roses are trained against the walls.
