hundred and ten feet, thence south-westerly eighty-eight feet thence south-easterly one hundred feet to the line of the aforesaid road, then north-easterly on the road line 88 feet to the place of commencement.”
When a new school house was built in Cape Wolfe in 1950, the old school house was hauled from its location next to the Cape Wolfe Church to another site leaving a vacant lot of land. This land where the old school house had set was purchased by Colon C. Costain from the trustees of the Cape Wolfe United Church.
The desire to have a deed for the church properly written and recorded in 1883 may have been due to the discussions between the Bible Christians Church and the Methodist Church regarding the possibility of reunification. The merger between the two churches was accomplished by their national leaders and in 1884, the Bible Christian Church in Cape Wolfe, Lot 7, became the Cape Wolfe Methodist Church.
The first Methodist minister to serve the newly united congregation was the Rev. D.H. Lodgefrom 1884 to 1887. Present at the First Board Meeting of the new congregation in 1884 were: Samuel Lidstone, Edward Lidstone, Ebenezer Crossman, Luther Crossman, N. Mooreshed, John Durdan, J.J. MacWilliams, and Joseph Brooks. The Recording Secretary was James Farrer Stewart whose wife, Martha Jane, was a daughter of the Rev. Francis Metherall.
The Women’s Missionary Society was founded in 1890 with the following members: Miss Annie Metherall, Mrs. Luther Crossman, Mrs. William Mac-
Donald, Mrs. Albert Murray, Mrs. Edward Lidstone, Mrs. James Farrar Stewart, Mrs. Samuel Lidstone, Mrs. E. Crossman, and Mrs. J. Durdan.
An organ was purchased in 1898.
In 1905, some major changes were made in the church building. A metal ceiling, purchased from R.T. Holman, Ltd., was installed. A Tower was built by Thomas Gamble of West Devon at a cost of $65.00 and painted by him for $6.00. The spire
was painted by Joseph Dalton.
During 1925, the Cape Wolfe Methodist church became part of the United Church of Canada and is presently one of the churches in the O’Leary Circuit.
