Although money was always in short supply in this church, the congregation raised $95.00 in 1905 to buy their first organ.

Spiritually, the church has served the community well with the envious

record for such a small congregation of sending two of its members into the ministry, the Rev. Walter J. Dumville and the Rev. Garland Brooks.

In 1981, the people of West Cape and surrounding area rallied to save the 107 year old church building from being torn down. At a meeting held to discuss the issue, it was decided that the church which was in use until the previous winter would be retained.

With volunteer labor and contribution of money, the roof was repaired, the exterior painted, the cemetery landscaped, and a new fence erected.

Many felt that this was a concrete demonstration of the fact that the people of the area believe in preserving what their ancestors struggled to create more than a century ago. Both the church building and the cemetery have taken on a new appearance since the work of renovation and restoration was completed.

8. KNUTSFORD BIBLE CHRISTIAN CHURCH

The Knutsford Bible Christian Church was built during 1879 and 1880. It was officially opened in 1880 under the ministry of the Rev. William Bryenton and attached to the West Cape Circuit of the Bible Christians.

In 1884, as a result of the international amalgamation of the Bible Christians and the Methodists, this congregation became the Knutsford Methodist Church.

The Wesleyan Magazine on November 26, 1885 reported, “At Knutsford, we have a neat and comfortable church, formerly Bible Christian, and a large con- gregation”.
