While the Rev. Herbert T. Smith (1921-1923) was the Methodist pastor, the church building was moved in 1923 to O’Leary. At this time, Rev. Stevens was the first minister of this church in O’Leary. Shortly after the beginning of the United Church of Canada in 1925, the congregation united with the Presbyterians in O’Leary. As a result of this union, the church building was closed and moved to its present site, beside the United Church of O’Leary on Barclay Road. The church building was sold to the Roman Catholic Church and is now known as St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Mission Church. 9. MIMINEGASH BIBLE CHRISTIAN CHURCH In the October 28, 1880 issue of the Summerside Journal, it was reported that, “The Methodists of Miminegash are erecting a very handsome little church. The Bible Christians of the same place are putting up a more elaborate struc- ture”. It seems strange that the Methodists and the Bible Christians were each building separate churches in such a small place as Miminegash with a very limited population, but such was an indication of the rivalry between the two denominations. The Observer, dated March 3, 1871, a church paper published in Bowman— ville, Ontario, contains a letter postmarked from MacWilliams’s Post Office, Lot 7, P.E.I., written to the editor by the Rev. John Chapple, Bible Christian Mis- sionary. In the letter, Rev. Chapple tells of his preaching plans which included a typical Sunday in Miminegash at 10:00 a.m., Lot 7 at 2:30 pm. and in the Bethel Church, Lot 8 at 6:00 pm. Other preaching points were probably included on alternate Sundays. It is interesting to note that only eight years prior to the Rev. John Chapple’s missionary efforts, a count of the number of families in all of Lot 3 indicated only twenty-six families in 1863. 3 a ,3 an a. - , . BIBLE CHRIST/AN CHURCH.
