Having gathered sufficient strength in numbers and financial support in 1879 and having been given a building lot on the Shore Road below the corner of the Palmer Road by two of its members, John and Phoebe Costain, the Bible Chris- tians, with their pastor, the Rev. John W. Ferry, started to build in 1879 what was described as “an elaborate structure”. This church with its steeple was com— pleted in 1881, and their new pastor was the Rev. William Bryenton. According to Elizabeth Ellen (Costain) Sentner, Roseville, P.E.I., tradition was that Thomas Gamble from West Devon was the carpenter who built this church. 215
