aisle on each side. The pews did not have doors, as many did in those days, but they were placed far enough apart to accommodate the ladies’ hoop skirts. In 1885, repairs became necessary for the church building.
In 1902, several changes were made in the structure of the building. Without removing the low roof, a new roof with a much greater pitch was built by John Green of Miminegash, an uncle of Stanford Green. John Green also installed ceilings in the church. At the same time, John Doyle built the spire and the doors, aided by his eighteen year old son, Alfred Doyle. Prior to major repairs being made, the church building was moved fifty feet south of its original position as it was too close to the north fence.
Some interior changes were made also. Since the present pulpit is not the original one, the one now in use was probably secured in 1902 as well as a pulpit chair and an organ, still in use. Before this, a tuning fork was used, to prevent any discordant sounds. The position of the pews was changed, pew partitions were removed, and more pews were added to the front of the church. The partition in the hallway entrance was taken down.
