REV. EMMANUEL LOCKHART 1914 - 1920

The Rev. Emmanuel Lochart was born in Spring Valley, Prince Edward Island on August 26, 1876, the son of George Lockhart and Adelaide Wallace. He was educated at Prince of Wales College, and taught school at Darnley for four years. In 1903, he went to the Canadian West where he served on various Mission Fields while taking his Bachelor of Arts degree at Manitoba College from which he was graduated in 1910. Three years later he received his diploma in theology from Presbyterian College, Halifax and was ordained in the Presbyterian Church in Kens- ington, P.E.I. He served in British Guiana, at Montrose and Souris in P.E.I., at An— tigonish in Nova Scotia, and for thirteen years at Little Shemogue in New Brunswick. While in Montrose, P.E.I., Rev. Lockhart was given a leave of absence for twelve months and on August 6, 1918, he left for missionary work in Demerara. Rev. George Millar from the Alberton congregation, supplied during the absence of Rev. Lockhart. In Little Shemogue he made notable contributions to the life of this agricultural community, and in this district he settled after his retirement. In 1948, he was honored by Pine Hill with the degree of Doctor of Divinity. His death occur- red in the Sackville Memorial Hospital on October 26, 1959. He is survived by his wife, the former Eveylyn MacLeod, and two children.
