laid to rest. Active pall bearers were: James Hogan, C.J. Moran, Frank MacDonald, J.T. Reardon, Simon Paoli Jr. and Philip Noonan. 59 A flat marker erected over the grave a short time later indicated that this was but a temporary resting place and that the remains would be permanently interred in a vault beneath the basil- ica when such a location became ready. However, this has not hap— pened and it may be time now to erect a more suitable monument to Bishop O'Leary in the cemetery. The inscription on the flat marker reads:

PRAY FOR RIGHT REV. LOUIS J. O'LEARY 6th BISHOP OF CHARLOTTETOWN DIED JULY 8, 1930

RESTING PLACE UNTIL MORTUARY CHAPEL IS BUILT AT BASHJCA IN CHARLOTTETOWN

Bishop Louis was widely mourned as a churchman of brilliant intellect, solid judgment, deep piety and great kindliness. His episcopal motto AMOR DEI (love of God) was one he not only carefully chose but diligently observed. His death brought to a close an interesting span of 17 years through which our diocesan Church was carefully guided by these young New Brunswick brothers, the O'Learys two.
