president was James Morrissey and founding secretary was JamesMacDonald. The benefits of joining this organization were great, and by doing so, farmers could buy farm machinery, spring seed, and limestone at a much lower cost. It also resulted in the importation of breeding animals to improve the Island stock.

Another system which started on Prince Edward Island around 1908 was the "Egg Circle". This was a unique system of marketing eggs. The eggs were collected and taken to a central point each week. The central point for Orwell Cove was the store of DB. McLeod & Son. From here the eggs were shipped to Charlottetown to be graded as small, medium, or large. The graded price from Charlottetown was then sent back to the store, where each person received credit for the graded eggs. This credit could be used for groceries and the balance settled up the following week.

In 1929—30, youths from Orwell Cove, Orwell, Vernon, and Eldon met at the home of Johnnie Mac Williams, where they decided to form a 4—H Club. Irving Nicholson was elected as the first president and Irving Jenkins became the first secretary. One of the programs offered by the 4-H club was the cow/calf project, which involved the training and grooming of calves. Calves of good breeding were one of the utmost importance, so new livestock was bought from farmers in Nova Scotia. Members paid about $20 for each calf. At this time, 4-H calves were taken to the Uigg fair to be judged, and the winning animals were sent to Charlottetown's Central School Fair at the

Exhibition.

Another 4-H Club, which included members from Orwell Cove, was organized on December 19, 1961. This was called the Newcomer’s 4—H Club. Annual membership was 25 cents and the club lasted for about six years. On November 12, 1974, the Orwell and Orwell Cove communities established another 4—H Club. Thirty-one youths and seven parents attended this founding meeting at the farm home of Wilbur and Pauline MacDonald. This new group was formed by members who split from the Newcomer's Club when it became too large a group. It became known as Bayview 4-H because the Orwell and
