Orwell Cove communities overlooked the shining waters of . The club set annual dues at $2 and limited membership to residents aged 10-21. Monthly meetings were held at member's homes. Communication Night, an evening of public speaking and demonstrations, was held at Vernon River Consolidated School. Orwell Cove Garment Club was also formed with Mary Morrissey and Rose McKenna (nee Morrissey) as the first leaders. This was formed in 1950, but only lasted a year due to Mary Morrissey 's ill health. In 1963-64, another garment club named The Hilltop Sewers was formed. This garment club was organized by Mary McRae and Thelma MacLeod . Many children and parents of Orwell Cove became members and leaders of these clubs. Numerous prizes, trophies, and trips were won by these members and leaders. 52
