Community showers were held about a month before the wedding. Gifts of dishes, glassware, pot and pans, towels, etc. were given to the happy couple.
Weddings were held in the bride's church with two attendants - a best man and a matron of honor. Receptions usually followed at the home of the bride for relatives and friends. At night, a party and dance was held at the groom's home and wedding gifts were opened at this time. The newlyweds spent their , honeymoon at home or in Charlottetown. Those who were not invited to the wedding usually gathered together to congratulate new couple. At this house party, the crowd blew horns, sang
songs, and shouted until the couple invited them in and treated them with cake, etc.
