Michael and Perle McKenna

Michael, son of Peter and Georgie McKenna, was born on this homestead and attended school in OnNell Cove. At the age of sixteen, after finishing grade school, he went out to work.

In July, 1951, he joined the Navy, going to Korea in 1952. in 1954, he sailed through the North West Passage. After serving in the Navy for five years, Michael returned to PEI to begin farming on the homestead. Michael, with his neighbour William Morrissey, purchased the farm and dwelling of Jim MacDonald. This farm consisted of ninety acres, which was equally divided between both of them. The house and lot was rented for a few years and later sold to Bill and Dot MacLean from the U. S. A.

In late summer of 1959, Michael married Perle MacDonald of Johnston's River. Upon arriving home from their honeymoon, Michael's father (Peter) welcomed Perle by opening the car door. The old custom of carrying the bride over the threshold was upheld by Michael. A meal, prepared by Michael's mother
