Michael and Mary Rooney

Michael, b. 1842, d. 1925, married Mary McKenna, b. 1844, d. 1925. In 1907, they moved from Iona to settle on a farm of 100 acres, purchased from Donald (Horo) MacLeod. Two of their sons, John Bernard, and Francis Eugene along with three children of another son, Joseph Rooney and Bridget Brennick (1876—1900), who died at an early age, moved to Orwell Cove at the same time.

These three grandchildren of Michael and Mary were Mary Ellen, Michael Joseph, and Susan.

Michael and Mary Rooney divided the farm between John and Frank, their two youngest sons. Frank farmed the land from the brookto Orwell Bay and built a new house on the Cove Road in 1917.
