Every spring and fall we enjoy the migration of the Canada Geese and the wild ducks that rest in our area as they travel north in the spring and south in the fall. The beauty of the red soil and green fields, and the river and the bay at sunset are nature's gifts to us. Our neighbors are always ready to give a word of encouragement or a helping hand in time of trouble; a sincere welcome to new settlers as they gain our community and a feeling of belonging is evident. Each year the whole community gathers together at one of the homes for the lighting of the Christmas Tree and a social evening. This custom began in 1987 and is well attended by all. Each summer a meet- your-neighbour is held to gather the people together and to welcome new residents and returning family members to the community. A school reunion also keeps the ones who "moved away" in touch with family, friends and neighbors. A feeling of warmth and friendship, memories of our school days, the beauty of the landscape, and our days spent with family and friends are the priceless gifts that are treasured by all those with ties to Orwell Cove . 163
