A SHORT CHECK-LIST OF THE INSECTS OBSERVED IN THE PROVINCE, 1910-1937 Until quite recently the Insects and their allies in Prince Edward Island have received little attention. The list here given is short, and perhaps its chief merit lies in its usefulness as a foundation on which others may build. The species enumerated were collected at odd moments, and were listed in accordance with the names used in that excellent little manual "The Natural His¬ tory of the Toronto Region" published by the Royal Canadian Institute in 1913. Finally, I take this opportunity of expressing my gratitude to those teachers who, at the School Fairs, permitted me to examine their cases of insects, thereby greatly extending my knowledge of the "airy, winged, tribes". Class ARACHNIDA The Arachnids of the Island are practically unknown. In 1938 the Crab Spider, Misumena vatia, and the Shamrock Spider, Aranea trifolium, were identified at Ottawa. Class INSECTA: Order ORTHOPTERA Melanoplus femur-rubrum De G. Red-legged Locust. Scudderia curvicanda borealis Rehn and Hebard. Katydid. Conocephalus fascitus De G. Eastern Slender Grasshopper. Seuthophilus terrestris scud. Spotted Camel Locust. Gryllus pennsylvanicus abbreviatus Serv. Field Cricket.
