Legislative Assembly
Walter R. Shaw: “You take that money and go out and dance up and down the white-ways of life; loosen up your rheumatic joints. We will look after your funeral expenses." The poor people; I don’t know whether they took that advice or
not. Honourable M. Lorne Bonnell: (Remark inaudible).
Walter R. Shaw: Jobs. They promised so many jobs, the same job; they pro- mised the same job so often that when the election was over there were so many calling up wanting this job that some of the Ministers had to take their telephones off the hook. That’s right. Perhaps the Minister of . . . . I can't be bothered men-
tioning all the things that he has done.
Now, down in the building so many new faces have appeared in new jobs down at the . . . what do you call that building? Down at the centre, you know what I
mean. Some Member: Shaw Centre.
Walter R. Shaw: That’s right, that’s right, you know what I mean there. You raised the barrier so I am going to keep you on that side of it too. So many new faces come in that you have to have an official introductionist going around each day to introduce the new people who come in so that the staff will know each other. As a matter of fact, it is reported, Mr. Speaker, that they are going to have a new co-ordinator down there in order to arrange traffic and see that nobody is hurt — bumping into each other as they go through the corridors.
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: Who reported that?
Walter R. Shaw: So many miles, so many, many.. . .Some at your building down there.
Honourable Alex B. Campbell: Oh, dear! Walter R. Shaw: I can tell you that. Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: (Remark inaudible).
Walter R. Shaw: So many miles of pavement were promised by some of the members that the total mileage of pavement promised in some communities far ex- ceeded the total mileage of the road in the community!
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: (Remark inaudible).
Walter R. Shaw: The Minister of Public Works. Perhaps that’s why the Minis- ter of Public Works took such a terrible rush to build new roads as soon as he got in, after he found that there was a million and a half of a deficit on road building
anyway. Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: That was a wise one.
Walter R. Shaw: The total mileage, a wonderful period of promising! Those deceptive desires of political pledges feathered by the young vibrant, vigorous, Pre— mier. The new political moons that were going to take the people of Prince Edward Island out from under the yoke of Conservative bondage. Have a look at it. (Applause)
Have a look at it. (Applause) Walter R. Shaw: Thanks for the applause.
Voice from the Public Gallery: The Liberals grew you up to be a man; didn’t the Liberals grow you up?
Walter R. Shaw: Mr. Speaker, I want that man put out, or taken into custody.
Some Member: (Remark inaudible).
Honourable Alexander 8. Campbell: I quite agree with the Leader of the Op- position; it is not proper to have an outburst of this nature.
